Every desktop or notebook or server is run by an Operating System - the low-level software that interacts with the hardware equipment, including peripheral devices such as a mouse or a printer, and any applications that are installed on the system. Any program input using a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is processed by sending an Application Program Interface (API) request to the OS. On a server, each application runs within the parameters specified by the OS as well - priority, physical memory, processing time, etc. This is valid for both standard site scripts and server-side software such as a media server. In case a virtual server is created on a physical one, there can be two different Operating Systems, referred to as guest OS and host OS, which means that you can set up a different software environment on a single machine.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
In case you decide to purchase one of our VPS server plans, you will be able to choose one of the three Linux distributions that we supply for the Operating System of the servers - CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian. They're among the most widespread and most reliable server OSs out there and we offer them so that you have a choice for the software environment of your machine in case that you would like to install some application with precise requirements with regards to the packages that should be present on the server. We also offer three web hosting Control Panels and which one of them you may use depends on the OS that you have picked. We leave the option to replace the server Operating System open, so when you want to use an application that requires an OS different from the one you have, we can always reinstall the VPS. In addition, we can keep the OS up-to-date weekly by installing all the security updates which may be released.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
The dedicated server plans that we offer come with three different Operating Systems to choose from. They are all Linux release - Ubuntu, CentOS and Debian, and not only do they have no license taxes, but they are also known as the most stable and risk-free OSs. We provide three different ones for the reason that each of them is backed by a separate community. The packages that you could add on your hosting server are different and this could matter if you want to install some piece of software with specific requirements regarding the hosting environment. In this light, the internet hosting Control Panel which you can select for the dedicated server is also determined by the Operating System that you'll choose. You can pick any of the three Operating Systems during the order process, however if necessary, we can always set up the server once again with another one upon your request. As an optional service that you could add to the plan whenever you want, we can update the OS on a regular basis in order to keep it as risk-free as possible.
